University of West London (Thames Valley University) is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse Universities with around 41,500 students from 117 countries.  TVU has over 140 years experience in delivering technical and vocational education. Achieving university status in 1992, TVU merged with Reading College and School of Arts and Design in 2004 to form one of the largest universities in Europe.
 
The university is based on three campuses in Ealing (London) and in Reading and Slough in Berkshire.  All have excellent road and rail links and students benefit from being less than 20 minutes from central London and Heathrow airport, with the Berkshire countryside and Thames Valley region on their doorstep.
 
Funded by the British Government, through the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Learning and Skills Councils, the University is monitored as a high quality education provider by the Quality Assurance Agency.
 
 
Academic strengths
Thames Valley University offers a wide range of vocational and academic courses for students of all ages from 16 upwards, offering pre-university, undergraduate, postgraduate and research education programmes as well as professional and short courses. The University is the largest provider of education in Hospitality, Healthcare, Business Management, Music and related disciplines in the UK.
 
TVU’s Reading campus also provides a large range of pre-university courses including A-Levels, English language courses and National Diplomas.
 
There are four faculties at TVU: The Faculty of Arts, The Faculty of Health and Human Sciences, The Faculty of Professional Studies and The Faculty of Technology. Subjects offered include:
 
Faculty of the Arts
Advertising, art and design, audio technology, broadcasting, computer arts, digital animation, fashion and textile, film and the moving image, fine art, journalism, media, music (composition / performance / technology), photography, popular music, public relations, video production
 
Faculty of Health and Human Sciences
Foundation health and social care, psychology, sociology, forensic science, health studies, pre-medical option
 
Faculty of Professional Studies

Faculty of Technology

The Graduate School was set up in 2005 to enhance and co-ordinate support for all postgraduate research programmes. The University offers Master’s programmes in Research, in Learning and Teaching, as well as conventional MPhil and PhD programmes. The University is currently developing Professional Doctorate programmes.
 
Employer engagement is fundamental to the University’s operation and purpose, as TVU is the largest single source of skilled and qualified people for employers in the Thames Valley and West London region, with 90 per cent of graduates finding employment within their field of study.
 
TVU offers applied academic programmes at all levels and is proud of its tradition of excellence in high quality teaching. Many of the academics have worked or are currently working professionally in their field of expertise.
 
 
Accommodation
The University Accommodation Service understands how important it is for students to have secure, suitable accommodation whilst studying and offers a free and confidential service to new and existing students at each of the three campuses.
 
Paragon is an award-winning state of the art accommodation centre for TVU students which opened in September 2006 and is close to the Ealing campus. Rooms are fitted to the highest standard with broadband internet access. The site offers 24-hour security with CCTV, a fully staffed office for any help or information students may need, and is available to all who are studying at TVU, including EU and international students.
 
 
Facilities and student support
We offer excellent facilities, friendly and professional staff, language laboratory, free internet access, free e-mail address, library open daily during term, weekends and holiday periods, computers available twenty-four hours, on-going English language support, canteen, careers services, excursions arranged, medical/health service, part-time employment opportunities, support facilities.
 
Our International Office advises and supports international and EU students, offering a pre-sessional programme, designed to help you settle in, make friends and improve your study skills; information on international student organisations in London; advice and assistance with opening bank accounts; a common room with computers; network opportunities for students; international student mentoring upon request; and free membership of International Students House, the premier international students’ club in the heart of London.
 
 
Student Life
All students automatically become members of the TVU Students’ Union, which promotes student participation and representation for all. The Sports Office in the Students’ Union is home to a wide range of sports and recreational activities as well as student-run societies.
