International Pacific College

Earn a degree or diploma for the age of globalisation

International Pacific College offers degree and diploma programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, all of which are approved and accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). IPC emphasizes development of critical thinking skills and creative, balanced and pragmatic approaches to problem solving. This means that graduates contribute to society while utilising their knowledge and skills in a creative manner.

  • Interdisciplinary Approach to International Degrees

Students study different disciplines, business, international relations, environmental studies and the relationships between them so that they can develop independent skills as well as a well-balanced, holistic understanding of various global issues.

  • Think globally, act locally

IPC regards personal experience outside of the classroom as highly valuable. Service to the community is mutually beneficial. Connections between learning in class and in a wide range of communities or communities clubs, teams and activities, or volunteer organisations contributes to the society in which students live and is important for the holistic development of each student.

  • Receive one-on-one support from friendly staff

Students can flourish with the personal attention that the faculty provide at IPC. Another advantage of studying at IPC is the individual attention you can receive from friendly, approachable staff. Because of small classes (15 students per class on average), unlike in larger institutions, individual support and attention is readily available for all students.

  • Enjoy learning with computers

IPC's computer enviroment is state of the art. Via a wireless network, students may access the Internet and a student server on their computers in their classrooms. the Dining Hall, their rooms in the halls of residence and even outdoors. Most students at IPC have their own laptop computers. They can also access computer laboratories with the latest equipment available. Students learn many applications through instruction in class, but they develop their own computer skills by using them for assignments and projects as well as personal interests and hobbies. Computing, as well as mastery of touch typing, ignored by many computer buffs, are both vital parts of IPC life.

  • Make international friends in a truly global campus

IPC has students and staff from over twenty countries working and studying together. IPC aims to foster closer links and understanding among nations through education. We need to listen to people from a range of countries and backgrounds within our own country and like a child, be curious about differences. We need to compare to see "hidden likenesses" between us and others. as well as differences.

Programmes at International Pacific College

IPC offers two postgraduate qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Diploma of International Studies
  • Master of International Studies

The Master of International Studies has an applied interdisciplinary focus. Most international issues of significance go well beyond the boundaries of any one traditional discipline and the resolution of the issues inevitably requires that the knowledge, insights and methodologies of different disciplines must be brought together and synthesised. For any one issue, the disciplines contributing, and the relative importance of the insights of different disciplines, will be unique and the form of synthesis will be peculiar to that issue.

  • Bachelor of International Studies

The BIS is distinctive from other Bachelor programmes in New Zealand in that all students must take a common core of papers comprising Business Studies, Environmental Studies, International Relations, and Language and Culture. You must also do a major interdisciplinary project in your final year. You may if you wish specialise in International Business, International Relations, Language Studies, Environmental Studies, Ecotourism or or Japanese Studies.

  • Diploma of Japanese Language and Diploma of Japanese Language (Advanced)
(1 year of full time study each)
  • Diploma of Japanese Studies
(1 year of full time study)

The development of beneficial relationships between Pacific nations and Japan depends upon mutual understanding and respect. Respect for and understanding of each other's point of view can only take place through increased contact and interaction between the people of the Pacific and the people of Japan. The key to any successful interaction lies in language and cross-cultural communication skills.

  • Diploma of International Sports Studies

This course has been developed for learners who seek to develop skills for coaching and athletic performance enhancement that can lead to immediate employment in secondary schools (sports coordinators), sports codes, coaching positions, international sports liaising, regional development officers, and opportunities for further study.

  • Diploma of International Studies

The Diploma of International Studies (DIS) is a four-year diploma programme which provides an advanced educational qualification appropriate to the needs and interests of the international business community. Practical studies are provided, and the programme includes papers that provide extra language support for those students who seek to achieve a level of English language appropriate to professional employment.

  • The Licentiate Diploma and Certificate in TESOL (Trinity College London)

IPC is an accredited teacher-training centre offering programmes for a certificate and a diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in association with Trinity College London. Trinity College was established as a major examining board in 1872, and the Trinity College teaching certificates are highly regarded professional qualifications recognised throughout the world.

  • Foundation Education

Foundation Education is the first year of DIS for non-native speakers of English that is run over three terms. Unlike English language schools which commonly rely on short term intensive immersion training to establish limited communication skills, the Foundation year provides a continuous course of language development that is designed to develop skills necessary for high achievement in tertiary studies. The sequential training in small-group settings enhances the use of integrated reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. It also introduces the use of computers and develops computing skills for tertiary studies.
